So this is probably not a very fair rating because I really had a hard time concentrating on this one. Based on what I did focus on, I really liked it and I liked the voice of the main protagonist. I also liked Padma, the woman to whom he is telling this story. But there was a LOT to this story. This was a book that deserved 100% my undivided attention and I just don't have the bandwidth for it. Ugh. I hated this. Crass, ugly, absurd and way too dang long. Listened to the first third as an audiobook, then split the difference reading and listening intermittently.
Having read some other reviews, I have to consider if listening to the audiobook wholly decreased my perception of this book. What I would have preferred not to read in excruciating detail, I could have skimmed, which is more difficult to accomplish with an audiobook. The wicked author wanted me to quit from the very beginning and he succeeded indeed. I couldn't read more than a 100 pages.
