Very enjoyable urban fantasy.
I love the idea of urban fantasy, but some of the bigger name modern series like Dresden and The Magicians haven't quite hit with me, mostly due to their unlikable leads and "dark and gritty" vibe. Fated fits what I am looking for perfectly, I get the fun of a contemporary world filled with magic, a lead character who I can root for, and a world that has some genuinely nice and altruistic characters to contend with those who hunger for power and fame or those who sim ...more

I felt the plot suffered a bit from too many handy magic items that appeared at just the right time. I think that's partly the effect if having a diviner as a protagonist -- of course he's prepared. But it's sort of like Teela genes; it makes it difficult to write a story where chance can come into play in a satisfying way.
I'd probably enjoy the other books in the series, but they're on the back burner for now. ...more
