Not quite what I was expecting - I thought there were going to be a ton of characters and a wide sprawling plot, sort of like Game of Thrones in space. I was pleasantly surprised here. This was an intimate focused plot, more along the lines of Firefly. Loved it but after reflecting, it was a bit more shallow than I was expecting.

Continuing my now fairly epic sci-fi kick, I finally got around to picking the quite heavily recommended Leviathan Wakes. Unfortunately this one really didn't click with me, as I got towards the end of the book I was really struggling to put my figure on exactly what was wrong, while just wishing it would finally wrap up, when it suddenly clicked for me. Really enjoyed this. Strong characters, nicely set up lore, and a nice central plot.

The next books have moved up my to-read list.

2016 I found the last 20% of the book more interesting than the 80% of the book setting up (what is Holden going to do without thinking through the consequences *this time*?) the big finale. I'l

Great space opera by Corey. Dips into noir, horror, and romance to create a stellar first book in the Expanse series. I'm jumping into book two right away. ...more

Re-read after watching S1 of the Syfy series. Still pretty good even though the characters are pretty much one-dimensional archetypes and Holden can seemingly talk anyone into anything, no matter how dumb it is (unless the plot demands he not be able to!).

I liked this book, and thought it was pretty solid science fiction with a story line that kept me entertained.
