Still great. Except for the Eater stuff.
The first two-thirds are pure action story, a high-powered romp through the far future and is a very fun read. However, around two-thirds in, the story takes a dark turn, like it stepped on an escalator to Hell and proceeds to ride it all the way down. Horza's (the protagonist) single-minded descent to the end, his personalities abraded by circumstance, is fascinating, if a little horrifying at times, to read.

This is my first Bank's and I came in with high expectations but unfortunately this just didn't deliver for me.
The writing is strong, but over-indulgence at times espically for this kind of story, and for a 30 year old book the foresight on technology, and particularly machines, AI and their impact on humanity is fantastic.
