I've been going on quite the near future, sci-fi binge recently and this was another really enjoyable read. This is one of those books where by the end I somehow realised I had enjoyed it a lot more than a though I had while I was reading it. Reminding me quite a lot of The Windup Girl this book looks at a future where corporations have essentially taken over from governments, and gene manipulation is out of control, particularly for creating, and destroying, food supplies.

No writer alive wields the linguistic pen like a weapon in quite the same way as Margaret Atwood. Her sheer genius is portraying dystopian futures is in making us laugh (albeit uncomfortably) at the mistakes which lead humanity to extinction.
This novel moves beyond the futuristic fantasy of The Handmaid's Tale to an even more dystopian world, a world where language--and with it anything beyond the merest semblance of humanity--has almost entirely vanished.
