I thought this was an enjoyable follow-up to the first book, Insurrection. Saylor is still a wonderful character, though it was interesting to see how she evolved in this installment and how she had to struggle with the life she knew as a soldier, all while dealing with family relationships she once knew nothing about (don't want to spoil too much for those who haven't read the first book) and personal relationships with her friends. That conflict plays out through the story and it's well done.
