What Members Thought

What I've found appalling about much of the YA I've read is its stubborn adherence to graded reader style class stereotypes. Every kid is a middle or upper class genius, off at special genius camp, getting ready for that first semester at Stanford. The professor/mentors are never burn out adjuncts and the prospect of student loans is non-existent. Music and literature are still being taught in schools. So this book had its redeaming feature - young queers in love, and who can resist such a thing if you're me. But sadly the juvenile narration made the book fall short of mediocre. Perhaps it's a good read if you're 12.

I thought I would like this book more. 3 stars is not a bad rating - I enjoyed the read. I just felt like maybe I'd identify more with the main character, and I didn't. It did give me a big case of the feels, though.
