What Members Thought

Well, Tales of the City lived up to its reputation. It is deliciously trashy and compulsively readable. Armistead Maupin wrote several characters that felt like people I could know.
It takes place in San Francisco in the late 70s, but feels timeless and current, except for the goings on of pre-AIDS crisis gay city life. It's full of affairs, and bath houses, and melodrama, and pot smoking. It's very funny and completely tongue in cheek.

A loving portrait of 1970s San Francisco, with "oh no they DIDN'T!" moments that made me audibly gasp about every ten pages. I want to read all of them forever. Easy to read; you can tell it was originally serialized.
