After reading this book the second time around, I have to say I truly appreciated the dark humor as well as the magical, dark realism of the characters and setting. It's a book that stays with you after reading it, and overall I found it a thoroughly engaging story. I just wish the other stories that came after this one didn't go down the road of "memoiresque" victim fic. JT Leroy is like a bad dinner dish that leaves one with a horrible feeling for the next couple of days. You can't throw up, yet you feel so ill for days afterwards the so-called meal. Shallow times' form of culture of sorts.

Disturbing, but amazing that such a short novel is so powerful. Actually when I heard about this - a 12 year old boy who likes to dress as a girl and prositutes himself - I couldn't believe it, because it sounded so much like the novel I was writing. (The similarities pretty much end there.) I feel "Sarah" is LeRoy's best work.
