What Members Thought

I've never successfully recommended this book to anyone, but I adore it. I adore Mary Renault and all of her writings, even though people complain her plots are too slow or too subtle or so politically and historically complex that you really should make some notes to help you along. This book is beautifully written, amazingly imagined and detailed, and wraps me up in itself every time, no matter how often I've read it.

This book was so bad it went past bad and back to good again. It gets a star for being one of the pioneer books of slash lit. Otherwise, it's gawd-awful. There's also not enough sex, which is its only saving grace.
