a work of activism more than a work of art. still activates 15 years later.

I read this a looooong time ago so I can't write a proper review and my rating is one of reverence rather than one of storytelling, literary meaning and merit, etc. If I read it again I will do my best to write a more in-depth review...

it's classic for a reason-- especially important for understanding the intersections and fault lines between old-school lesbian life (1950s-1980s) and the transgender male community. it's also a worthwhile portrayal of working-class life in upstate NY in that era.
