Of course it's 'problematic' (god, I tire of that word at times--can we ever just leave it out of a feminist discussion? EVERYTHING is 'problematic' in some way, because NOTHING is transparently one-dimensional). But thinking of, one, how revolutionary this felt for me when I first read it in the tenth grade (I don't even have a vagina, as far as I'm aware), and two, the wonderful work this 'play' has done in the past decade...I genuinely feel it deserves the five-star rating. I have read pieces from this before. However I will be working with students on a production of it for Month Celebrating Women @ Westfield State. So I guess i should read the entire book. Hoping to find someone to do the trans-woman piece on campus. Don't know how to ask people for that one... ...more
