Wow. This was so excellent! A very quick read too. Alice Walker tells her story solely through journal entries (addressed "Dear God") and letters between two separated sisters. What a beautiful voice! I will definitely need to read this again, to appreciate the luscious language. This novel is almost like poetry! Every small chapter is very full with content.

I was certain I'd already read this book when I picked it up for book club, but I realized I hadn't, and as I read it, I remembered just how much I love Alice Walker's writing. She has a great unique style and explores human nature in an incredible way.
