Sethe's story shows how trauma is passed on from generation to generation. How it manifests itself in our behaviour and our ability to live and love. Focusing on these strained family relationships it also makes personal the depravity of slavery. This was a difficult read for me as it was painful, brutal even. I felt spent every time I sat to read, but it was worth it to be able to experience Toni's writing for the first time. ...more
