This was an unexpected gem of a book.
This book was chosen by my book club 'Let's Read...' for our April 2019 book. I have no interest in Grime. And the name Dan Hancox meant nothing to me in any context. I assumed he was another middle-aged middle-class white man trying to be cool. Inner City Pressure by Dan Hancox tells the story of Grime. However, there is also much more, as it is also the story of modern Britain, from the Blair years through to post Grenfell. As a consequence, class and social inequality are also covered. After reading DJ Target’s Grime Kids where the narrative was more active, this felt more like an observational study (similar to David Simon’s The Corner or Homicide Life on the Streets).
