... I fell, I fell hard. At first I wasn't a vampire girl. Then I got over it. Then I wasn't a romance girl. Then I got over it. I wasn't even a fairy girl (I mean, c'moooon, fairies!? Those little guys with gossamer wings? Gah...). I got over that, too. Seems like all it takes is a good book or a series for me to get over not being "_____ kind of girl". Angels were among those that weren't my thing. Like, you know... wings? Feathers? Like, how can a grown woman read about... wings? Nalini Singh ... I fell, I fell hard. At first I wasn't a vampire girl. Then I got over it. Then I wasn't a romance girl. Then I got over it. I wasn't even a fairy girl (I mean, c'moooon, fairies!? Those little guys with gossamer wings? Gah...). I got over that, too. Seems like all it takes is a good book or a series for me to get over not being "_____ kind of girl". Angels were among those that weren't my thing. Like, you know... wings? Feathers? Like, how can a grown woman read about... wings? Nalini Singh cured me of that one, and Susan Ee cemented my new found favourite supernatural beings into place (my fave ones are the ones I'm currently reading about. Sorry vamps, sorry fairies, you'll have to wait for your turn again).

I like post-apocalyptic worlds. I like them very much. I also like dark, a bit (or a lot) supernatural settings, and atmospheres ful of anguish. Susan Ee's post-apocalyptic world has it all. Well, I must not forget very cool and hot winged men. There is literally ONE angel female in there. But, I'm not complaining, not me. Na-ah.

What I don't like are teens. No, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against them in real world. But they're not my first choice of heroes/heroines. I like things in books... well, violent. It just doesn't seem right to put a teenage girl in all that. Not to mention the implications regarding "romance" parts of the stories. And by "romance", I don't actually talk about only ... "romance". If you know what I mean. I had a problem with young MacKayla in Fever series, but she was at least an adult. Young, but an adult. Penryn, on the other hand, is very much not. She acts, thinks and does as an adult would... I would have been just a liiiiitle bit more comfortable if she was just a liiiiitle bit older.

Oh, well... that's really the only thing I could find that I wasn't really happy about. I like her as a character, she's strong, but has flaws. And I do like flawed heroines. She maybe a bit too cool. Like, all that cool moves she does. But, I need to remember that it's fantasy.
All that being said, it's not much of a reason not to like the book. I did like it, and I'm not ashamed to admit it!

4 stars cause I like it very, very much. It did lack that "something" for 5, but overall it's a very good read. I recommend it! ...more
