So, this book is amazing. Really amazing. My current favorite fiction book ever!

(Spoiler warning!!!)

Penryn was my ideal heroine. She didn't just get her strength overnight! She had to have already had martial arts training. That is what many books lack.

And she realized her mistakes! Not everything worked out for her. She couldn't save her sister in time to prevent the hell she went through.

And then there's Raffe. The mysterious, cocky, really hot guy DONE RIGHT.

Oh yes, now this is what I have been looking for! What a wonderful book! What a magnificent story! Wow! I couldn't put the book down, I kept on reading and reading until I had finished it in one go.

I love Raffe, I love his humor, his personality, his mysteriousness, I just love him.

What I love about Penryn his her loyalty. It doesn't matter if it's for her sister or even the angel who simply became her unlikely partner, she's loyal and will kick anyone's ass if need be. The hardness of the wor Oh yes, now this is what I have been looking for! What a wonderful book! What a magnificent story! Wow! I couldn't put the book down, I kept on reading and reading until I had finished it in one go.

What I love about Penryn his her loyalty. It doesn't matter if it's for her sister or even the angel who simply became her unlikely partner, she's loyal and will kick anyone's ass if need be. The hardness of the world around her has definitely left a mark on her but it makes her all the more interessting.
If there is one thing I was a bit disappointed by, it was that A) Penryn was only 17. I mean, she doesn't feel like a 17 year old teenager to me. She should have been older. In my opinion the only reason why she is that ages is because in young adult novels it seems to be an unwritten rule to have a teenager. And B) there is too little emotion to Penryn. Yes, she risks her life for her sister and Raffe, yes she doesn't care what happens to her but what does she feel? Where are her emotions? She felt a ittle too detached.

What I did like was the complete absence of her vanity and no detailed description of her looks. So far, in too many YA novels we get a thorough description of the heroine and of course she is tall and gorgeous and has such amazing eyes and ooh her hair! Here, the reader doesn't really know what she looks like - all we know she's short. And I love it that way. Then almost at the end, Raffe tell her she's beautiful. It's the first and only time such a comment is made.

I was also glad to see that this was no typical YA romance. The main characters don't fall in love with each other on the spot, there is no annoying and unecessary love triangle, there are two characters who end up together and as a reader we are drawn to the action filled story, wondering if Paige will be rescued and if Raffe will get his wings back, but the romance fades into the background.

This was simply amazing. When I finish this review I will immediately jumpt to the second installment. ...more
