I'm officially addicted to a new series! Now I just need to figure out what to do with myself until the next one comes out. When is that again?!

Now I'm not the type to do great summaries so bear with me...

The book opens right where the last one left off, Penryn paralyzed in her mother's lap on their way back to the Resistance camp from the Aerie. Of course things don't go as planned - Paige tears a man to shreds at the Resistance camp, Ryn and her mom get captured by Beliel and sent to Alcatraz I'm officially addicted to a new series! Now I just need to figure out what to do with myself until the next one comes out. When is that again?!

The book opens right where the last one left off, Penryn paralyzed in her mother's lap on their way back to the Resistance camp from the Aerie. Of course things don't go as planned - Paige tears a man to shreds at the Resistance camp, Ryn and her mom get captured by Beliel and sent to Alcatraz which is the angel's new monster lab, Ryn is chosen to be one of Uriel's female decorations, Raffe learns Ryn is still alive only to almost be killed again in an angel killing frenzy - but Raffe, Ryn, and Paige live to fight another day. This makes me especially happy when we are given the tantalizing tidbit that Paige may play an important part in halting the angels' plan!

Some people are getting aggravated because Penryn does some less than intelligent things but I found it quite realistic considering she's only 17. Trying to keep your family together and alive at that age while in a post (or would it technically be pre-) apocalyptic time is not an easy gig. I think she's doing well all things considering. Despite the tough situations Paige gets herself into causing Ryn to go after her, it's what we do for family. Crazy or not, you don't give up on family.

Speaking of crazy, I have to give props to Mom! That woman may be a paranoid schizophrenic but she sure knows how to survive. I think Ryn and Paige need to take notes and stick close. Ha-ha!

Finally, I really missed Raffe in the beginning but I did enjoy the insights from "Pooky Bear's" point of view. It left enough questions unanswered so he's still a mystery but it did help you understand why he's trying to keep his distance from Ryn. He's failing miserably and can't admit it to himself, or anyone else for that matter, but you respect why he's keeping her at arm length after one of the flashbacks. I'm ashamed to say that I would like for him to "fall" but I have to be honest. Their banter is great and they balance each other perfectly. It just doesn't seem right that in a world where the rules no longer really apply, that the good guy can't have a bit of love in his life.

All in all, it's the makings of a great series! ...more

I would like to thank Amazon Children's Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with an electronic copy of this book to read and honestly review. Some words come to mind when describing Penryn: strong, adaptable, capable, innovative, and intelligent. World After reads like a blockbuster action film, except that the main hero is a heroine who can win a fight in high heels and an evening dress. The mood of the book is decidedly darker than Angelfall, with the introduction of more challenges that ...more

Compared to the brilliant first book of this series, the second book didn't knock my socks off as I had expected.
The first half of the book was too boring in my opinion. We follow Penryn and her family as they are part of Obi's resistance group but that's about it. Nothing really happens. After the action filled first part, this was a let down and I struggled to remain interested.
