I am just shocked at how much I enjoyed this book. There is a book that comes after this one (Nicholas Sparks' only sequel book as of right now) and without knowing, I read the second book first! I am just shocked at how much I enjoyed this book. There is a book that comes after this one (Nicholas Sparks' only sequel book as of right now) and without knowing, I read the second book first! But he wrote the second book so cleverly that I couldn't even tell it was a sequel. Does that ever happen to any of you? He made it to where you could pick up the book "At First Sight" and start reading and never know there was a first half, but at the same time, if you thought about it, you could probably imagine a first book being written. Now unfortunately I didn't like the second book all that much because I thought it was slow, but I then realized it was probably because I didn't know what was going on before. I only had this book and his book "Three Weeks With My Brother" left to read by him, so I reluctantly picked this one up, not excited at all to read it. A slow beginning, but once Jeremy hits Boone Creek, I found the book super charming. In a nutshell, the book is about a guy named Jeremy from New York who is a science journalist. He does NOT believe in the supernatural, so once there is a story about mysterious light down in Boone Creek, NC, he decides to go investigate. An older lady who owns a restaurant called "Herbs" is the one who contacts him. Her name is Dorris and she owns the popular restaurant in town called "Herbs". Now, Jeremy has a little bit of a troubled past. He was married once, can't settle down again, and the doctors told him it would be near impossible to have children (something he badly wants one day, especially when he's around his siblings and nieces/nephews). So he goes to Boone Creek and is treated like a start by the Mayor (we later find out he's a scam artist and there was no mystery to the lights, his dad figured it out years ago). But then Jeremy meets Lexie (Doris' grandmother), who after only knowing for 2 days, falls in love with her. He begins ignoring calls from work and his agent and focuses all his time getting to know her in a slow but lovely way. (Lunch on Riker's hill, accompanying each other to the party in Jeremy's name, etc). I really enjoyed Lexie's wit and charm, and I LOVE that she works in a library. Because I'm a huge book lover and the library is one of my favorite places, I loved every scene in the book that talked about the Library, the history of it, the set up, the rare book room, and Lexie's work. Although Lexie is hesitant to get into a relationship with Jeremy, they (obviously) get together in the end and at the very end of the book Lexie realizes she is pregnant with a girl. The books ends there. I have decided to re-read the second book now, the one I read last year, to see if it flows more smoothly now and to see if I wind up enjoying it. I really think it was a good refresher to go back and read this first book so I see how they met. It's almost like having a flash back in the 2nd book to see where it all began. ...more

After a long time finally I read an awesome book from Nicholas Sparks! I was starting to get bored of him! But yeah, at last he created a beautiful love story with a coating of supernatural elements and miracles and finally decorated it with bitter sweet nuts of distance and science.The two people, who started out as strangers falling in love was completely predictable since it is the same with most of the Nicholas Sparks books.
