Brilliant and heart-wrenching. If you are part of a step-family you will commiserate. If you are not, you will be able to walk in other's shoes-and isn't that what every good book does? This is the first book that I have read that captures step-family dynamics so completely. Let it be a cautionary tale for married couples-how one simple moment can change everything for two families. Don't have much to say about this book except I liked it and it felt good while reading it even though it wasn't necessarily a "feel-good" book. I think it was my first Patchett book and I now plan to read more of her book catalogue.

This was one of those books that I struggled to get through at the beginning, but after I finished it, it stuck with me and I was still thinking about it for weeks. For me, that's what makes a 5/5 rating.
