I am not a Amy Schumer mega fan. Her comedy oscillates between self-deprecating humour, food jokes, and sex jokes. I could live without the sex jokes. I think she is much smarter than she lets on, but these jokes are what she built her career on. In her standup, I want to see more of her intellect than her vagina drama. Knowing this, I should have expected that her collection of stories would have a similar effect on me.

"I fully accept myself as the girl with the lower back tattoo. This is not to say that I don't have regrets. Fuck yes, I regret getting this ugly tattoo that I thought signified toughness when it really just symbolized how lost and powerless I was when I was an 18-year-old girl. But I forgive that girl. I'm a fan but I mostly only know Schumer's stand-up work. This wasn't always a laugh out loud book like Jessi Klein's which I also read recently. The book made me appreciate Amy as a real person. Someone relatable, flawed, and someone who works hard at doing what she loves.

I do not read non-fiction unless it’s these celebrity memoirs. Love my girl Amy & I listened to this through my Audible app, which was also narrated by her. It means so much more when you read a book, written by someone about their life experiences & they’re actually reading it to you.
I laughed and laughed and laughed. So glad I read it!
