My summary of Gary Paulson's The River is: Brian Robeson was rescued from a plane crash, he had to survive in the wilderness for 64 days. Now the government months after Brian's rescue are trying to teach a realistic survival course but do not actually know how to survive. so they ask Brian to take one person to go out into the wilderness and show him how to survive.
