This book starts off with Marcus Luttrell talking about his childhood and how his Father and Billy Shelton, a Green Beret, always pushed him to become a U.S. Navy Seal because of how great of a swimmer he was in the Texas water, where he was born and raised as a true patriot to his country and family. Billy trained Marcus and his brother through some of the hardest training to get them prepared for the Seals. After that, Marcus went into Navy Seal training Lone Survivor

This book starts off with Marcus Luttrell talking about his childhood and how his Father and Billy Shelton, a Green Beret, always pushed him to become a U.S. Navy Seal because of how great of a swimmer he was in the Texas water, where he was born and raised as a true patriot to his country and family. Billy trained Marcus and his brother through some of the hardest training to get them prepared for the Seals. After that, Marcus went into Navy Seal training and had a hard time but succeeded and graduated to become a warrior and defend his country from evil. Marcus had been on many overseas tours before operation Redwings while waiting at the base for mission briefing. The operation was a “go” several times before they actually got to go. They were finally flying into the hills of Afghanistan the four Seals now had their boots on the ground. They were scoping out the village where Taliban leader Ahmad Shan was last spotted. While doing that there where goat herders that where in the same mountains with them and came across the Seals. They apprehended the goat herders and Mike Murphy had to make a vote to kill them, or let them go. If they were to kill the unarmed Men, there would be severe consequences. Mike made the life changing decision to let them go. All the goat herders ran back to village and told the Taliban where they were. Ahmad Shan sent hundreds of Taliban at the four Seals. The Seals where outgunned and outnumbered by the Taliban, while Mike was trying to call for backup he was ambushed. Then Danny Dietz was shot multiple times, Matthew Axelson was trying to save Danny when he was shot to death. Three out of a four Seals were dead, leaving Marcus the lone survivor. Marcus wrote this book to tell the heroic story of his brothers and honor the Seals that died fighting for their country and made the ultimate sacrifice. To this day, Marcus still feels like he died up on that mountain with them. After Marcus was done wondering around in the forest trying to find a way to get contact with the U.S. troops, because his radio had been broken in the firefight. He was given help by a doctor of a friendly village that was out getting water for the kids of the village when he found Marcus in bad condition. The village went by a code of conduct that any injured person they brought into their village they would have to care for them. While in the village Marcus was saved by Army Night Stalkers and brought back to America. He healed and recovered on his family’s ranch in Texas. He even got to meet the president of the United States at this time, George W. Bush. I strongly recommend you read this book it is written by Marcus Luttrell himself.
