In a small town, there lived an easily caught disease. People who had the disease were called the infected, commonly known as zombies. The infection among the town is discovered when Mary finds a secret passageway leading to the forbidden forest. Mary and her friends go through the passageway to try to find answers of why it has never been spoken of. On their way, they fight through a whole swarm of the infected and some don’t make it back out alive. The author tells a story about Mary, the main character. She talks through first person narrative throughout the whole book. The use of first person narrative lets the author tell the story as if it was happening to her. Allowing the reader to see Mary’s dreams first hand helps the author explore the theme of never giving up on your dreams. In my opinion, it helped me feel like I was actually a character in the book. I recommend this book because I liked how I never knew what was going to happen next in the story. It always kept me on the edge of my seat.
