Chris Kyle is a legend as called in the book. He proves how he got the nickname through his heroic story.
He starts off with his first kill ever but then quickly jumps into his life of childhood and teen years, talking about what growing up in Texas was like. He was a hard working kid and loved the ranch he worked on but once he graduated he was thinking military. After talking to his parents, he decided that schooling came first and then the military, but half way through college he dropped out to go look for work. Seeing that he didn’t have anywhere to go and wasn’t making a whole lot of himself, he signed up for the Navy. By this time he was consider a little out of the age group for the people in his basic class, but once he made it through he wanted to go to Navy Seals. As I said, he loved ranching and the rodeo from which he suffered injuries in the past that came back to haunt him. As time went on, he went back to his old job and then moved to Colorado for a change. Then he got a call from his recruiter saying that they would let him try out which meant going to one of if not the toughest, hardest, most stressful testing you could ever have, B.U.D.S. I could go on, but you’d have to read the excitement for yourself. But after making it through, he trained to reach his physical peak condition by lifting and working out all day, every day making him tougher, stronger and ready for the task. He is told when he’ll get shipped out, so his team decided to celebrate. This is where the hit home part starts because he meets the love of his life, Taya. Throughout the book, you will continue reading about the hard and good times throughout his marriage and life and exciting and tragic times he had on his deployments. It’s a book the truly defines what patriotism and a hero really is. As the author of an amazing book, he reached millions or even more people showing them what veterans go through and being their voice to the country even though most stay silent.
I strongly recommend this book to everybody. It’s a great book and really shows what goes on in the lives of military families. It shows what a true hero is. I loved the book.

The book is about your average guy who decided to join the military. Chris Kyle planned on joining the Specials OPS but ended up in the Navy SEALS due to his wrist made of metal. Military runs in the family. His brother is also in the Marines. The book tells the story of a Navy SEAL who has a twisted experience on his deployment. American Sniper is an autobiography written by Chris Kyle, a Navy Seal who completed four tours in Iraq from 1999-2009. The book starts off with Chris talking about life before the military. He always wanted to be a cowboy. He and his brother went to many rodeos all over Texas and worked on a ranch, but that all changed when Chris saw a news broadcast about an overseas U.S. embassy getting attacked by terrorists. This made him really mad, so he went to a recruiter station. He wanted a real challenge, so he enlisted for the Navy Seal Training. After he graduated from BUD/s training, he was sent to sniper school. Chris wanted to be a sniper because he was gifted with a great shot, which he learned from his father when they were hunting. The day after he graduated he was at a bar celebrating with all the other Seals. He met a girl named Taya. They got together. On September 11th, right before their wedding Chris and Taya were in their apartment when they saw two planes crashing into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. This made Chris very angry, so he trained even harder at sniper school because he knew he was going to war. On Chris’ first tour to Iraq, he and a Marine were on a rooftop protecting a marine convoy from insurgents. He was scoping out the area and saw a women and a little kid walking towards the convoy. The boy had a Russian grenade, and he went to throw the grenade at the convoy, but Chris shot the kid and the grenade fell on the ground. The women picked it up, and she threw it just as Chris shot her. The grenade went off right in front of the convoy. Chris had to shoot them both; if he hadn’t, then 20 U.S. Marines could have died. They didn’t because he saved them. On Chris’ last tour, he had to close of a call with death, so he decided to make that his last time and not re-enlist. He did this for the sake of his family. Chris also experienced a war at home dealing with all the after war effects. Once he recovered from the PTSD, he learned he had over 160 confirmed kills. Chris started his own business called “Craft International.” It is a foundation to help wounded warriors with PTSD and any other problems they might be experiencing. Chris made this foundation with many other Seals to honor Ryan who was shot by an enemy sniper bullet and was blinded. He died during the surgery. I highly recommend you read this book. Chris explains a lot about the war and his personal life.
