A fantastic read, without a dog! What a pleasant surprise. If I could rate 10 STARS, I would. The book is truly fascinating, with its retrospective viewpoint. I loved the initial epigraph, and knew the pages to follow would be outstanding. How thought provoking: "We do not see things the way they are, we see them as WE are." Wow, that has a mighty punch. Wow. I had trouble putting this one down at all. And even when I did, the story and characters kept running through my mind; in my opinion, that is a good book! I wondered how I might feel about the ghostly scenes, but that was one of my favorite parts of the book--very well done! Having met Garth and talking with him last March (While he graciously signed 5 copies of The Art of Racing in the Rain for my friends!), I could see his personality in Trevor. I enjoyed this book so much that I read it a second time. You could count on one hand the number of times I've done that. With " The Art Of Racing In The Rain" Garth Stein has two of those fingers. Both books are must reads for anyone who enjoys brilliant writing and excellent story telling.

I truly enjoyed this book. It is a coming of age story, as told by the adult version of the protagonist. It is about recognizing human connection, relationship, and emotional growth. All of which require a level of suspended belief, and more than a little faith.
