মন্তব্য করাটা একটু কঠিন, মানে রাজনৈতিক বিশুদ্ধতা ধরে রাখা ত কঠিন বরাবরই।

চিনুয়া আচেবের সাধুবাদ প্রাপ্য - সেই সময়ে, সেই পরিস্থিতিতে আফ্রিকার উপর এমন একটা বই লেখার জন্য। এই বইয়ের ক্ষেত্রে অনেকে বলেন যে শাদারা নাকী নির্বোধ ইত্যাদি হিসেবে আবির্ভূত হইছে, আমার পড়ে সেইটা মনে হইলো না। বরং আচেবে কাউরে খুব বেশি কাঠগড়ায় না ঠেলে দিয়েই নিজের গল্প বলে চলে গেছেন। লেখার মাঝে মাঝে আফ্রিকায় প্রচলিত সব উপমা আর শব্দোবন্ধের দেদারসে ব্যবহারও দেখবার মতো।

There is a whole lot going on in this book. It's tough to critique.


To start off, I loved how Achebe dives into tribal culture with zeal and gusto, using native words and customs allowing context to fill in the blanks between your culture and theirs. The violence and misogyny, though difficult to read, felt authentic to the place and time and not imposed.


I enjoyed the twists and turns of the protagonist's journey to prestige and glory in the clan. The end, however, seemed to come out of nowhere
