Contains my absolute favorite fictional character of all time... Elphaba. The story is a gripping read and much different from the musical, if you've seen it. Clever to put a new spin on such a timeless character, who in and of herself embodied an archetype, Maguire manages to challenge all of the reader's assumptions and expectations. The philosophical and historical discourse on the nature of evil and who decides what is moral/immoral is priceless. One of the few books I've re-read many times

What I Loved: I am a Broadway NERD and a huge Wicked fan!! So, first of all, this book was right up my alley and I loved it. I'm always one that feels the books is better than the movie, and this was my first chance to see if the book was better than the stage show. So was it? The stage show and the book happen to be two very different things. Yes, the same general story-line is there, but the book goes into some deep dark places in Oz that the stage show DID NOT. This book was recommended to me. It is apparently a revisionist account of L. F. Baum's Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Generally speaking, I am fond of revisionist books as I always like to check the other side of the coin! It jut shows how subjective our interpretations can be. I never found the book but I was fascinated by the idea.

This book was a major disappointment. It was the second book I had read by this author and I really had high hopes for it since I had love Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. However, the book NEVER got off the ground. I kept reading and hoping that things would pick up or fall into place but the books just got so bazaar and so unenthusiastic a gave up with only 25 pages to go. The characters are uninspired, although certainly strange. The plot is so muddled that you don’t care what happens. This

Amazing perspective on the whole Wizard of Oz story. To take such a vilified and one dimensional character and give her life, and motivation, and to show that she is not necessarily what is made of her, and how she is perceived by both thos around her and history, well quite a feat Greg! I haven't been able to get behind any other book by this author yet, but this one was tops!
