I really liked this book .. some parts were slow and predictable. It was romantic and epic just enough to make me excited to read. I even got a little teary eyed at some parts and I rarely cry in books. Although I did watch the last few min of Pitch Perfect 2 that same day and cried at the flashlight song ... So maybe my hormones are out of wack!

It takes a really good fantasy novel to remind me how much I like fantasy. I'm usually very entrenched in my contemporary works.

I had hopes for this book, but I didn't want to be disappointed. But I loved it! Great characters, great suspense. Once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. It played off a lot of fairy tale tropes but made the story unique and fun on its own. Though the preview of the next book was cruel! I need it now!!

This was a beautiful book, I haven't ever read A Thousand and One Nights. But this rebelling just captured it beautifully. It almost didn't read like a YA novel to me. All the characters where wonderful and the setting was beautiful. I just really wanted to know more with each and every chapter. I love diversity in books and kudos to the editors for putting a glossary in the book. As there where many words I didn't know so I was even learning a little as I was reading. I'm definitely looking for ...more

Such an amazing book. Renee is one of those authors who inspires me to be a better writer myself. I don't understand how this is her debut novel. AGH. I need the sequel.
Shamefully, this was the first book I've read centered around the Arab/Egyptian culture. (I'm not quite sure of the actual location). I am pretty ignorant on the literature of these areas, but this makes me want to find more!

This might be a retelling of 1001 Nights, but I honestly, it was more of a Beauty and the Beast retelling.

I had trouble getting into this at first. I didn't understand the connections and was only vaguely interested in the plot. But once Shazi got into the palace things got better.

The language is simply beautiful. The eloquence is just magnificent. It took me a while to actually believe the love story, but when it worked it WORKED! I would have liked a bit more epic with the romance, but still
