I knew I would like this book the moment I saw the cover! And it did not disappoint, The Kiss of Deception is a YA fantasy book that starts out with Lia on her wedding day deciding that she dosen't want to go through with her family's plans for her to wed a prince that she has never met in order to seal an alliance with a neighboring land. Loved the characters, great writing style, a bit predictable at times, sometimes the romance was too much it shadows the world building however it was still an entertaining read. Lia was an amazing protagonist can't wait to read the next one because the ending to this was not satisfying at all.

This was my first book by Mary Pearson. Overall I enjoyed it, however, I felt like I wanted more things explained. It kept talking about a gift that she had but never fully explained the qualities of the gift. While I liked both male protagonists I never felt any chemistry between the characters so I'm hoping more builds up in book 2. The world is an interesting one where I'd like to see more of what goes on. My official rating is 3.5 stars.

Such a fantastic fantasy! The underlying magic system is very intriguing and unique and I can't wait to see more. The plot twist completely got me, and I've never been so tricked in my life. Bravo.

I really enjoyed re-reading this when enough time had passed that I didn't remember the plot details, but I remembered the plot twist. I feel like I got to know the characters a lot better this time around. ...more

This was fun, but I think I would've enjoyed it more if I'd read it when I was younger. I like this author, and I'm all for giving princesses agency of their own stories. It follows a lot of YA fantasy tropes, so if you enjoy those, you may like this!
