I don't understand why people don't like this book. I went into it with low expectations and I was blown away. Mare for one thing isn't what expected her to be, none of it is really what I thought it be. She wasn't a lovesick girl and I appreciated that, and she's flawed. I will be reading the rest of the series.

OMG THAT PLOT TWIST
Even though the whole time I kept second guessing every single characters motives, which is surprisingly what the book nudges you every so often to do, I still was shocked and horrified and the final twist. I cannot wait for 2016 so I can get my hands on the second book!

When I started this book I had so many expectations because of all the hype and admittedly I got really into it at first but as it went on my interest in it declined. I originally rated this 3 stars but when I think about it more I just feel very...meh about it and that's making me lower it.

Wow. Wow.

Oh my Stars. This was an amazing book.

I heard about this book through YouTube/BookTube and I heard nothing but great things about this book. I know a lot of people didn't love this book because it's "not creative". It's not the greatest book in the world, but I thoroughly loved the Red and Silver blood system. The world was amazing, the characters were amazing, the writing was amazing. This book was amazing.

What really interested me with this book was the genre mixing. Dystopian Fantasy Wow. Wow.

It's not the greatest book in the world, but I thoroughly loved the Red and Silver blood system. The world was amazing, the characters were amazing, the writing was amazing. This book was amazing.

What really interested me with this book was the genre mixing. Dystopian Fantasy. Such a great genre mix. Great job, Victoria Aveyard. At first, based off of the awesome cover, I thought it would be fantasy because of the inverted crown and the title QUEEN. But as I was reading it, the words "officers", "electricity", and "factories" came in and flipped my entire reading experience like the inverted crown. That was pretty cool.

The Red and Silver blood system reminded of the color system from Red Rising by Pierce Brown. I'm not saying they are the same. I'm saying the blood system of Red Queen reminded me of the color system from Red Rising. Silvers are people with abilities, and are considered gods to people. Reds are poverty stricken and have no special talent whatsoever. Silvers, in short, are assholes. Reds, in short, sadness struck me right in the feels.

Mare Barrow is our narrator, our protagonist. A Red, but has an ability, an ability that has never been seen before. I really liked her character. I thought she was very layered and very well developed. I really liked her interactions with people like Gisa, Cal, Kilorn, and so many other characters I can't name right now. I loved her thought process, the decisions she makes, and her relationship with Gisa, her sister (I think).

Gisa, liked her. Cal, mixed feelings about him. Kilorn, my Red homie. Prince Maven of Norta, I'm unsure about him. Queen Elara Merandus of Norta, bitch has gots to go. Great cast of characters, but I hate most of them, and I was suppose to. Great job, yet again, Victoria Aveyard.

The writing is very simple, which makes the book easy to read. I think the writing will improve in Glass Sword, but for now, I love the writing style. The world building was very well done. I could actually picture the world very clearly, like the Stilts, the castle, Mare's house. And the character descriptions gets an A+ for awesome.

Glass Sword next? Hell...yas. This book is one of my favorites of 2015 so far. Right now, A Court of Thorns and Roses takes spot number one, and Red Queen takes spot number two. ...more

Not my favourite book, but I'm pretty sure I would have been more into it if it weren't for the massive three day long headache I had. And plus, I hate to admit it, but I got so impatient that I kept flipping a few pages ahead and eventually spoiled myself to the point where the book was just dragging. :(

I don't blame the material, I blame myself, so I gave it a good four stars just because I do want to pick it up again and maybe enjoy it more the second time around. ...more
