Definitely have some mixed feelings about this book.
This started out SO GOOD. I LOVED the whole idea about being divided by blood, and the silvers having these awesome powers, etc.. (I'm going to love any story involving awesome powers like this - The Darkest Minds trilogy, The Shatter Me trilogy, X-Men, etc...)

WHOA. Just... WHOA.
When I first started reading, I wasn't super into it, it took about 50-75 pages for me to really get sucked in and get attached to the characters.
I think that even though it did seem like a few popular YA books smashed into one in some aspects, I wasn't really bothered by it, it's pretty hard to be super original these days since almost everything has already been done. Victoria Aveyard, you are PHENOMENAL. First of all, the writing in this novel was beautiful and fantastic -- not your typical YA lit. As I was reading, I kept feeling like this was real, like Mare's story really happened. (Think Henry VIII scandals and wife-rebellion.) I loved this, I loved Mare, I loved Cal... each character felt believable and I truly cannot wait until the next book. This was a refreshing read and if you have any doubts about it, just pick it up! No, it didn't remind me of the ...more

It took a little to get into, and the twists in the book weren't really twists in my opinion. But, I do have to say overall I really enjoyed this book and am excited to see where the author goes with it. All I can say at the end though is Kilorn= Gale and Cal= Peeta lol. Not so much in personality obviously, but in the fact that she's going to get with Kilorn, but probably end up with Cal. That's my prediction anyways ...more

I loved this book. It was so sad through and it would have been 5 stars if i had not spoiled myself. But it had some really good twists.
