[close] Well written book. Fascinating look into the minds and hearts of the German air force (Luftwaffe) before and during WW2. Franz Stigler, the books main German focus, was not a part of the Nazi political movement, yet served his country. There was a time I would have found that hard to understand, but now seeing the direction of our government I can understand how military personnel put their ideology aside and serve. Franz's story is told in order to better share the story of the American heroes, led by Charles Brown, flying bombing raids over Germany. War, like life, is a complicated thing. The lives from both sides of this war eventually become brothers, because they both answered to a "higher call".
