Before you question the rating, allow me to explain the reason as to why I did not like the story. "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson is about a small village of about 300 inhabitants and every "morning on June 27th" (71) they gather in the center square to perform some sort of old custom the village has. When reading the short story “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson its can easily help us as a reminder of where these famous authors from books like Divergent and The Hunger Games get their ideas. After reading this book it makes me feel like Shirley Jackson was the original young adult author. Shirley Jackson shows how a good mystery triller should be written wrapping us in her tale human wickedness.
