I listened to the audiobook of this one, and I loved it. I usually just listen a little at a time when I'm doing other things, but I made it a point to listen to this one, and I finished it in just a few days time. There are a lot of layers here -- race and culture, family secrets, parental expectations, feelings that people don't share with others, and a mystery about what happened to the main character. Finished this book about an hour ago and it was all good until the ending 🤦🏽♀️👀. Maybe I’ve become too obsessed with extreme twists, true crime, and major thrillers at the end of most books I’ve been reading but this definitely made me think there had to be more to this! I’ll give it 3 stars because the story line was a good build up.....the ending smashed those two other stars.
An engaging book, I enjoyed the characters and their development. I found the story to be a bit two dimensional but for a quick summer read it does the trick. The plot moved quickly, there were a few twists.
Wonderful writing, TOO SAD, I don’t feel good.
