I loved this book. It's a sad one, though, so keep tissues around if you cry easily. Jan and Antonina ran a zoo in Warsaw before the war. They had a young son in a villa and they woke every day to an ideal life for them. When World War II began, they figured they had to do something to thwart the Nazis. This book was a real disappointment. I finally got my hands on a copy, and I was really looking forward to reading it. The research was solid, but the writing was stilted and the author didn't do a great job blending everything into a cohesive narrative. The whole thing was quite choppy.

I'd probably give this a 2.5 stars, which is really disappointing because I love this time of history. I'm not sure if it was because I listened to it on audiobook instead of reading it, but I just couldn't connect to this book at all.
