I picked up this book because a customer at B&N so enthusiastically recommended it....and I was not disappointed.
I am sad that Harry Potter is no longer a character in her books...but JK Rowling is a great writer and opening one of her books is like returning home....the words fit.
This is the story....the first, in a mystery series, of a private detective down on his luck who picks up a case because of his past....and looks into whether or not a famous model had killed herself or if it was fou ...more

Private detective Cormoran Strike and his temp secretary Robin are hired to look into the alleged suicide of a supermodel in Great Britain.
I loved the characters and their sort of noir/old-school feel. I enjoyed the mystery itself and found the denouement quite satisfying.
What I tired of quite quickly was the Foul (emphasis on that "f") language. Knocking the usage down to once or twice a page (rather than a dozen or so) would have shortened the book by fifty pages.

Eh. I'm giving it a 2 because that is "I did not like this book" and I would not recommend it to others. As a mystery - sure, that's what it is. Maybe I just don't like mysteries? I don't know, but at the end when Strike says to the killer all the reasons he is the killer - it was just so typically dumb. I felt like I was reading a book from the 1950s.
