There are some great quotes about the love of reading in here, but that's about the extent of it. Neither Barrows or Shaffer wrote in the vernacular of the period in which the book was set - it's like reading letters from high schoolers written in the early 2000s. Neither author was able to provide a unique voice to each of the characters, even though there were ample opportunities in the letters to do so.
