My rating is probably 4.5 stars if it was possible. The story is about the German occupation of Guernsey during World War II (which I had never learned about) and how the people of Guernsey dealt with and recovered from it. It is told in a series of letters and telegrams and is really delightful. Despite the heavy subject matter and occasional heart break, the letters are for the most part cheery and up beat. The theme of the power of books to heal and support during difficult times really reson ...more

WWII is a special time in history to me as both of my parents served in the Army, so I am drawn to books dealing with that era. This is absolutely one of the loveliest books I have ever read set in that time.

The Isle of Guernsey was occupied by the Nazis for a time. Interestingly, the inhabitants of the island coexisted peacefully with their German invaders. But that isn't the story here. The story revolves around correspondence between a London newspaper columnist and and admirer on the island

I had low expectations of this book and it turned out to surprise me. While the voice doesn’t seem to change from letter to letter, I still enjoyed it and appreciated not having to change tone in my head back and forth, so almost wonder if that’s on purpose.

Loved the perspective of WW2 from Guernsey. It was a great and fun read...Greatly looking forward to how they decide to play this out in the movie coming to Netflix on 8/10. Love Lily James and really hope the movie does the book justice.

WOW! This book is phenomenal; I enjoyed it SO much. I read it after watching the Netflix movie version (which I also loved, but the book is even ten times better!), and did not expect to become so immediately enamored with it. It is definitely a new favorite that I will no doubt read again and again, as the characters and setting of Guernsey are so infinitely delightful. It will be a joy to revisit this world! So glad I read this book!
