I felt like the last person on the planet who had not read Ready Player One last year when I received it from Book of the Month. It is really not the kind of book I generally read, young adult and techy sci-fi, but I thought with so much hype and all the 80’s talk surrounding it I would give it a try. There is a fine line between 2 and three stars for me and this book sits firmly on it. While I loved and got the pop culture references, I was lost at the vintage video games. I think this will be a great movie but the video game details were just sooo boring to me. I can see how people would be into all the 80s pop culture, but growing up in the 90s/00s, it was just kind of lost on me. Excited to see the movie though because I think it might be the rare example of the movie > book.

This book was quite a ride. I loved it, despite my doubts about the story being for me. This was what I needed as I have been struggling with a minor reading slump the last couple of months. I plan to read more of Ernest Cline's books in the future. ...more
