When I returned home back in December THIS was the book everyone seemed to be talking about....and as I NEED a long book to fall into, I eagerly downloaded it. Ho hum. It was not that thrilling. I am not even sure I will bother to read the next in the series.

I would have given this book five stars because I really did enjoy it, although I'd had my doubts -- a time-traveling love story set in Scotland? In many ways it's terrific -- Jamie is a true romantic hero, the love story is affecting, and it is a nice long adventure of a book, full of interesting characters.
On the other hand, the author seems to relish her descriptions of torture which were really too much for me. The ending of the book was such a drag it really turned me against it.

This was a second-time read for me and I'm surprised at how very much I'd forgotten. It was ridiculous. It was just like reading the book for the first time (with the major key points remembered, of course) but I found myself riveted, just as I was the first time that I read the series.
