I read this in early college and really disliked it; I greatly appreciated the ideas and the skill in took to write such a novel. I loved that it criticized the American Dream and America's materialism and dark side of dogged determinism and self-determination and capitalism, and how, even when the dream is reached, it is empty and unfulfilling. Great ideas!!!!

No one writes descriptions as lovely as Fitzgerald. Simply gorgeous use of adjectives long-forgotten.
