I had much higher hopes for this book. The characters were all a gloss of what they should really be and Bruno was so naive that it was unbelievable. I know it's a late elementary school (a woman saw me reading it and told me she taught it to her 7th graders, so i guess not that young) book, but it didn't get into anything. It eluded to the atrocities, but unless you know how happened at Auschwitz, you couldn't really know what's going on. The end was sad, but not unexpected, I guess. For, I thi

Well written and thought provoking. I forgot I was reading a children's book.

Although this story touches on one of the most devastating events in history, telling it through the innocent eyes of a 9-year old boy helped me get through it. The message to me was hate is not a trait that we are born with, but a trait that is taught.
