I found this book outside on the "cheap" shelves at Strand...and decided it was fate. So many people have read this book...talked about this book...and so many times did I find it on a table at a bookstore while I looked for inspiration. I should have stuck to my first opinion. I hate books with animals as main characters. The idea was definitely different...but how much can happen between a boy and a tiger. Seemed almost like Castaway...

I loved pieces of this book - but am not in love as a whole. I loved the first 1/4 of the story while Pi was telling the story of his childhood in India, and his exploration of religion. This was a beautiful, well-written story.
The story of cast-away Pi was not as engaging. I felt myself pushing and slogging through much of the story. I got much more interested again in the last 1/4 of the book. I think 3.5 stars would be more accurate than 3...the writing was well-done. The anecdotes were also ...more
