This was the rare book that started out slow--built to a moderately interesting middle, then dribbled off into an off-the-grocery-store-rack romance with heaving bosoms and furred chests. "Water for Elephants" was the Book Everyone Was Reading for a time, and it was pretty good, saved mostly by its unique setting and characters. Melodrama, but melodrama with charm. (And there's nothing wrong with a little melodrama, now and then.)

I wanted to punch those 3 worthless characters. Prefer her first book.
Not what I expected and not my favorite of hers, by any means, but it was readable and interesting.
