This... this book. It has important messages. I think it does a good job bringing up and discussing some issues when it comes to native Americans BUT I for the life of me get over the use of the words retard and faggot as insults. I get it's a representation of a 14 year old boy and the environment he lives in. Love YA/coming of age books. This one has been on my to read list for a while. It’s a book I think all high schoolers should read as it introduces aspects of what life is like for a Native American teen who is between his home on the reservation and his life in a predominately white high school. I learned some new things and enjoyed reading about it through the lens of a Native American teen. It was heartbreaking at times and funny, too.
