This book is a bit like taking some of the mystery of a Dan Brown story and making it smarter by placing it in a bookstore. I liked the first third and the last third of the book a lot, but got bogged down a bit during the middle section. The details about Google in the midst of the search for the answer to the mystery surrounding Mr. Penumbra were more than I needed or wanted. Enjoyable characters and a quick fun read. I'm not sure all the loose-ends were tied up (or maybe I just didn't understand), but I liked the puzzle aspect of it.

This was a really good book. At one point I thought I'd be giving up, because parts of the story weren't reading well for me. Though I'm glad I stuck with it. I highly recommend this book especially if you like to read about old books and a dash of secret societies.

I read this for our mom's book club, and I really enjoyed it. Very creative for those who are techies and those who are old school book lovers. A lot of mystery and you enjoy following the characters as they try to discover the code. Definitely worth the read.
