What makes a book a classic? Slaughterhouse-Five is one of a handful of novels that is found on every list of best books of the 20th century (I count 15 titles total among the five lists that I have). And it probably should be there, although I wonder whether its impact will be the same on future generations. I can imagine it must have blown away the people who read it when it was first published in 1969, especially the men who had experienced WWII and probably understood the book's main charact ...more
