This was a very challenging read and it took me some time to get used to the syntax that was trying to stick close to the french original. It is a very chilling story about the arising hatred between the Hutu and Tutsi tribes in Rwanda. Set in a boarding school for girls, Mukasonga describes the rising resentment of Hutus towards the Tutsi during the late 1970s in small episodes.
