Isn't it amazing how authors evolve as they progress through their careers? This is my absolute favorite writer's first novel, and I wasn't a fan, even though I wanted to try to be. A woman and her daughter drive across the country from California to Massachusetts (had to look at someone's else review to remind me, even though I knew it was in New England) to escape their disinterested, workaholic husband/father.
